What Ever Happened To Respect?

Now I understand respect is earned not something that you automatically have a right to. Yet when I grew up, right or wrong you respected the elderly, your parents, people in positions above you, your supervisor, manager, political leader, priest, pastor, or just plain ordinary people we had to deal with each day. It was part and parcel and the fabric of America .

Well sorry, that just isn't so any longer and it is gone, not going, going gone, gone. Yes we have allowed a culture of ignorance, arrogance, selfishness, anger, irresponsibility, and a lack of character and morals to pervade society. You can argue all you want but reality is you can go anywhere in this nation and it will stare you smack in the face. The walk, the clothing, the gestures, the language speak to it all. They are signs and symbols of the age.

Now I have written to this a number of times, character, morality, morals, ethics and I winder why bother. You see it is in my opinion and beliefs a major sign of the end times. Now don't get me wrong, these negative attributes have always been present. Yet in gentler times they were not as predominant.

What do I mean, well once again, people forcing their lifestyle and beliefs openly flaunting sexual promiscuity, nudity and their beliefs upon the majority? Clothing, music, words which are negative are now "creative" and "culture". Talking back, arguing, gesture, in your face threatening interactions, demanding and non apologetic confrontations a consistent and constant reminder of the society we now live in.

When once windows and doors were open and people were welcomed we now cower when the doorbell wrings. We take out our gun and cautiously ask who are you? Read the papers and hear about home invasions, beatings, rapes, and other unspeakable acts in the papers every day. You can't even drive to the store in fear of who will pass you, cut you off, curse, our schools in the same pitiful mess. Don't think so you just don't know. People would be shocked to know in many schools sex is openly performed in class while teachers look the other way because they don't want "any trouble" yes and if something does happen they are caught. Yes and even when confronted they deny such, why, fear, certainly not in our school. Yes and as we know teachers even involved. Yes and church is no better. Have we not seen that openly in the number of instances?

Well like I stated perhaps that always was but was kept hidden in secret, not publicized, never in the open. Yet I can't remember it to such an extent all over and blatantly. I choose to think while it took place it was the exception rather then the rule. No it seems we have made a major cultural shift somewhere along the line. Adultery, condoms, open sex, gay sex, immorality all in the open and fine with the majority. People choose to live without marriage, have multiple children from different partners, children never knowing who their real parents are, grandparents raising children, financial problems abound, and police say a major player in arrests and violence family disputes. The list is endless.

This is life today by deed and fact and truth. It can not be explained away it is right before us. We can certainly ignore it and the majority does because well, they approve and do the same in perhaps more subtle ways. Yes even while professing a belief in God. Yes and all that goes hand in hand with greed, conniving, stealing, manipulation, exploitation all symptoms and attributes that follow the same types of persons. Character traits of loyalty, responsibility, allegiance offering an apology when wrong or offending, all things of the past that are no longer treasured, seen or cared about. Well that is to say in fundamental adherence. It is all sadly today a majority of words and facade, profession without substance and the few who maintain values, well; you got it, out of touch with this "enlightened" generation.

Yes, "things are different now", is so correct, way different. Yes and this is, as I have written to many times, a major sign of the age. Read it in the Word of God and then contemplate, observe, listen, see and you will know. Well stop a minute and you will know if you don't already. Yes and apathy and acceptance of it, well all across this land and globe. People ignoring what is transpiring and uninterested in anything. "What can I do" and retreat to their secluded, gate protected [really] housing sub division.

Yes and understand this, it will grow even worse and you who hold to religious values, the golden rule and look for decency, well you are the problem for a society that cares only about themselves. It is in the highest offices of this land, business, church, military, it, as I said, can be found everywhere even in your own family and home. Your home, yes your home. Realize when your child answers back they are doing no more then what they learn in society. Understand when they do the opposite of what you expect, it is no more growing or a stage it is transformation to acceptance into what society demands.

No don't let anyone ever tell you it is a fad, a stage they are passing through. That leads to tragedy and misfortune. Guard your young tirelessly, educate them, give them values and make them understand they will not be part of this world, never and that is a heavy load for the young to carry so be gentile, understanding and patient but be vigilant.

Think not, and then ask yourself this, What ever happened to respect?

Very strong words Robert and understandably so. In the UK we havent quite reached the "we take out our gun" stage..that is an argument all by itself but I hear what you are saying. I touched upon it myself in my article "Missing! Please and Thank you both feared dead. " Thought provoking and alarming when taken on board. Julian

Julian, thanks for your comments and reading. I apologize but I evidently cannot respond via the normal manner so please accept this as a reply. Yes the UK did away with weapons a long time ago, that is for law abiding citizens,  I'm sure criminals have no problems. Over here in the "colonies" we still take the right to bear arms seriously. I just purchased one after a rash of home invasions all about this area in Florida. A lot of haves live in this state, I not being one, none the less wanted to secure my right before it went away. Like many we see what is happening all about and many Americans are arming themselves. In fact all over this nation. Now it is not the good, decent citizens one needs to worry about. Crazies and accidents will always be but less then 1%.  NO and the crimials well they can buy a weapon of any size and all know that. Yes it is culture change that many in your nation and here are seeing emerge as their culture changes, as yours has done drastically. Bests wishes and I'll be sure to read yours.

I read in Mathew somewhere a phrase that goes like this in Jesus words " do not think that I have come to bring peace. I have come to turn son against father daughter against mother. For he who loves his father more than me is not worthy of me. That's the way it was in the 60s with the generation gape, do you remember?

Yes David, I would refer you to Thessalonians, and really in many places God speaks about character in the end times. Best wishes my friend.

Hello, Mr. Melaccio. Please be encouraged. There are areas in the US that are predominantly civil.

Yes Suzi, certainly I agree. However, one has to take in the view from 50,000 feet to get the real picture. It is amazing when we stop, look and listen what we see come to life right before our eyes. best wishes, and thanks for reading and commenting. A great pace Searchwarp to meet, learn and exchange.
