Well for the hooked, the habitual user or the person locked into it the answer is not a simple no. Now NO as a word is one of the hardest words it seems for us humans to say or implement. One could write another article about what NO really means to some. Yet it is one of the most significant words regardless of size. In reality to the person trapped it is and can be a long and painful road back that sometimes becomes a battle each and every day and for that matter hour and that some never make or finish. Yet it is the key to everything, it is the one key required element on the road to ending this tragedy or any for that matter. It is called real change and it can only be an individual change. You see one is part of the whole and until all of society recognizes what needs to be changed and commits to it there will not be the change we expect. It is that simple.
Example many say they are saved, Born Again Christians, but if you do not repent, change your ways but continue in your sinful ways you are not changed. You believe you are changed and born again but the truth, reality, fact is, you are not. Changed only on word, rhetoric, presentation, by what you allow others to see and know on the outside.
Example, Tuesday we will change a physical person in the White House, that is all. Congress will roll along with the same people driving the car to the same destination. So it is for those who commit adultery, fornicate, use drugs and swap IV's it all really starts with truth, acceptance of the truth and then a commitment to change.
Examples, ok, the giving out condemns say's very clearly, "we know you will do it so at least be protected". Then it again it can also say, " we all do it but at least be protected". Perhaps it might say, " hey we're all humans so at least be protected." Of course you hear " everybody does it and yes I use protection". Maybe we hear it is a cultural thing? We hear so many excuses not to and continue doing and ignoring what we know is truth but care not to accept. That is at any cost to ourselves and others. It won't happen to me. However, when it does and even while we throw out the ramifications, people say, I just didn't know. Sorry you knew, you ignored, you chose. In my opinion it speaks of a culture that accepts, makes excuses, tolerates for their ones self interests, desires, wants, coveting.
Now change is as I said the acceptance of people to change their way of life. The hater, bigot, taker, sinner, etc, it matters not. Will they? Well we already know the answers to that. Some do and some don't. Some pay the price to win others want to be part of winning but don't want to pay a price.
No we fool no one, yes no one. We may not want to hear it. We may not want to know it. We certainly don't like when the truth applies to us personally, or even our race, gender, or religion, our nation, no, please worry about your own and let me worry about me, I now what I'm doing, do you? Perhaps, but no excuse to not accept the facts, the truth.
So like I said people can always find an excuse. The thief, the one who breaks the law, the one who runs a light, the one speeding, the one who cheats, the one who does but blames someone else. The drug user who says, I am just an occasional user. The smoker who says " can stop at any time."Yes no mirror for them and please "I have heard that already a thousand times". Ever hear that? How about "get off my back", or "I'll do what I want to do and n o one can stop me".
No change only comes when we want to. When we accept, When we commit and make an effort. Can we slide back, fall, certainly, but with help we can get up off the floor and move forward. So don't think this election is making change. The truth the facts that you know are right before you and you. Yes like this election. I use it as an example because many know why they are voting for their candidate. The buzz word change but is it or is it more then that? No the vices mentioned will continue because people do not commit, lie, cheat, steal, maneuver, connive, exploit, use to get what they want. Many come in light but are wolves.
No the answer to our nation, our culture and the answer to HIV, Drugs, Abortions, etc, is as simple as a two letter word, no.
