Is Just Walking Away a Real Consideration?

Well for those of us who profess we believe and do what is required of a believer in God, it would crush one spiritually. It would be the opposite of who we say we are to walak away. Yet, when we are literally abused financially, mentality, emotionally and directly and indirectly by people who evidently do not have a real concern for people then are we more like Jesus in the Temple? Did He not show His righteous indignation over the usury all about? Is ones health and family less important? These are hard questions that I propose all who face this must answer. Is it not happening even as I write with cars being returned, homes and people driving without insurance? Yes, it is an issue of morality but for both parties.

It is an example for all good, decent Americans struggling with no job, their credit ruined, and higher and higher costs to ponder. When faced with the threat of we will ruin your credit, really, what credit? Credit in my opinion and in these times is for the haves who do not need it. We will sue you, for what? I just helped a widow totally crushed by this experience. A good woman unable to pay by circumstances created by these very types. It is a shame that we really have reached this point in many a persons life. How very sad.

Re: Credit Card debt. So, I took action again and sent this to my, or I should say those representatives in Congress. Perhaps one from you would help? It has gone to the varied leaderships in both Houses. The letter is as follows -

I address this to the entire body and if I have sent it incorrectly I trust you will place it in the proper hands? In these troubling times I felt it essential to place this concern before the entire body for consideration. Many average Americans are focused on just who and which will address the needs of us citizens concerning this issue.

In addressing this with my state Senator's and Representative's I also wanted to insure the information was received by others in office who can make a difference. The following issues are what in my opinion are no less then immoral and frankly it is an abuse of decency that should not be permitted any longer.

First should we not forget we are talking about what is supposed to be unsecured debt . In effect a signature loan? Just what ever happened to "Assigned Risk"? In fact they have taken what was "unsecured" and through legislation made it "secured". Yes Credit Card s are the gateway to purchasing and expansion of the "Free Market ideology" .

Most or not the greater percentage of honest people desire to pay back their debts there are some who will not, you will never change those types. Yet, to push good, decent people over the edge is in my opinion a blight on everyone who sets their interpretation of "responsibility" in this manner. Yes, in my opinion they need to reexamine their souls for the harm they cause in what they have done and failed to do.

This is not about making a fair and honest profit but all about excessive profits and abuse / harassment. I will list them for expediency.

1- Exorbitant interest rates push people from being able to make their monthly payments past that ability. Why, their rates jumps substantially. Congress has imposed a "payback" added to each monthly charge along with excessive late fees and other charges with no grace periods.

2- Consistent telephone and other forms of harassment regardless if you called them back, have a sickness or other hardship. Yes, and even after contacting them they will call day long 5, 6, 8 times a day every hour until paid. They will use "unknown numbers", call you cell phone, call your employer and call your family and friends and do other harm to your reputation, regardless of your circumstances, sickness or other hardships. They can literally cost you your job.

3- To think government agencies are the answer is to be kind, naive. Toothless entities.

4- Goverment provides them with write offs for their unsecured debt and other accounting advantages while you punish the borrower for years because your credit is ruined and you may be forced to go into bankruptcy. Something they do not mind you doing.

5- Yes to think that these payment plans, the credit agencies and others in this industry help is in my opinion and once again to be kind, naive.

6- You took away the last bastion of protection in changing the bankruptcy laws and left people at the mercy of this heinous system. You have destroyed their ability to secure employment, purchases services and in effect destroyed a segment of the purchasing public by forcing them into higher and higher cost options.

7- No you can't opt out once in default and do you really think a 30, 60 or 90 day notice will help, really?

8- Do you think that insurance you purchased covers you?

9- What about all your other card holders? Yes, Congress has allowed if you default on one all can raise your rates even when you are not in default with them. Yes morality, decency, integrity, right?

If one talks about debt and responsibility then just open the door and look about. Good people everywhere in trouble and this i s in my opinion just one more element of the destruction of our average working class citizens. It is becoming you can't secure a job, get a loan, buy insurance, or anything. It is getting to the point, yes the literal point, where good people of all walks would just rather walk away and damn the credit report, liens and these companies. Then what will they do? You can't get blood from a stone.

So what we as average Americans and Americans of all walks of life are looking for is an intelligent answer from our government. It is not that people do not want to pay back the money owed. It is can we and if we can at what rate without a total negative to our ability to work, secure services or provide for our loved ones. In my opinion you can no longer claim you by your actions and works are not a part of allowing this immoral business to continue. Fair is one thing usurious another.

Respectfully,

Good article RTM. Maybe we have to take things into our own hands? Pay off all credit cards and tear them up. Don’t buy a drop of gas that you don’t need. Buy the smallest, most efficient used car that you can get by with, or a bike. Don’t finance anything. Don’t buy a home or property – rent. Don’t go anywhere that isn’t necessary; pray at home. Cancel your cable, use rabbit ears. Get rid of your cell phones, a cause of stress. Pull all your money out of the stock market and 401ks and put it in a local teacher’s credit union in CD’s. Stop consuming, buy only necessities. Rice and beans won’t kill you. Cancel all health insurance and show up at emergency rooms like everyone else. Don’t do anything that feeds the out of control corporate profits. They need us more than we need them. I guarantee that things would straighten out in a hurry if we only had some personal discipline. It has to begin with us, and we must begin living spiritually instead of materially. When you get your tax rebate, don’t spend it. Put it in a safe deposit box, or under your mattress. It must begin with us, we can’t wait for them. Live like a monk. LOL Best…………..e

E, that is wisdom. How many can overcome the temptations we have been indoctrinated to believe in? I have started by cancelling my cable and I am going back to the old way an antenna. I will cancel my cell as soon as possible and reduce all over ehads that I can. Unfortunately once in their snare we are caught. All the best and keep writing good work. Robert PS: My nickname in HS was hermit. I loved peace and tranquility and if I had a cave I most likely would be in one today. Not bad you know, NO AC required.I think of China and those Monks in Tibet today who just want the simple life and they will get slaugthered by those who most likely profess the same beliefs.
