Anyone Who Wants a Job Can Have One, So They Say.

If you are not concerned with what is happening in this nation then you most likely are part of that select group that has it all or what else can I say. Why do I say this? Americans are hurting where the tire meets the road and everywhere they turn they do not see nor sense an urgency by anyone to help. They get more then enough of the same tired rhetoric and little else.

So let's start off with some of todays facts and truth straight off the press. The Home Insurers of America earned 73 billion in profit last year and currently the first quarter of this year have earned 32 billion in PROFITS [Per governor Christ]! For those who might not know, profits are what are left for the shareholders and owners after expenses. Many Home Owners in Florida can't afford insurance any longer and are trying hard to move or are plain and simple abandoning their homes.

The three largest banks are throwing 100 billion into the market to shore it up and that on top of what the Fed has already thrown in. Wachovia bank stated the average gross income in Florida is $41,000 a year, is that for a family or single income? I know many who  are  under that number and based on two incomes.  I recommend they get themselves a big key safe to hold all those retuned homes and foreclosures. Maybe then they will renegotiate their loan to save their butt? See [The 20% Who Have Will Eventually Get Theirs!] While we are at it, we might as well rehash the home status in Florida. I venture to say it may be the same in other states as well?

We all know current taxes are based on last years statistics. If you have a mortgage and dependant on how large that is, you could be in a negative position. That is you owe more then your home is currently worth. While they say prices will eventually even off to true value, you will still owe more then it is worth. As long as you keep the home and for as long as you own it many of you would have borrowed more then you can ever get back. You can never sell because or unless you want to take a loss. You better like that home and for a long time. In effect you are glued to it it has not become your dream it has become your noose.

To boot next year you can expect about 3% increase even though your real value will go down and market value might as well. So you have some real choices, as do many in Florida. Close to 5000 homes for sale in my county alone and a portion of that in foreclosure. I think the banks are going to be into the real estate business big time and we are all going to feel it and soon!

So now that we have all the facts lets tackle what I stated to which is employment in this At Will State.

Ok, the persons shoveling that statement around that anyone who wants a job can have one in my opinion just don't know where he or she should pull his or her head out from. So, here is a test for those who think this is a great economy for the average American and middle class. I am sure that it could apply anywhere in this country.

Come on down to Hernando County Florida if you want to prove me wrong and do it. Stop by the local Career Central government agency and you find yourself a job. That is one you can live off of and support a family with. You know the one they might send you to and that is if it is a real job and still open and if you can even find one to start with. No, I'm not speaking to those medical jobs that I must say are about the only ones that are there and are really about the only ones save Teaching and Government jobs that can support a family, not if you talk to teachers who can't get a loan to buy a house. Yes, and even these occupations are hurting for good help because of the wages and hours and demands they make on people and the economy. No, go after one an average person may want to secure, you know the ones with a high school, some college or a GED.

Yes, you will most likely find that you can't even get an entry-level job in this county and if you find a job you can't even get 40 hours of steady work and certainly no benefits. Yes, everyone is hiring except when you show up for the job. "We're taking applications and will call you." They  are always taking applications and looking but rarely hiring. One job has been in the paper over two months now and still they haven't hired. The phonies don't even have what it takes to tell you no. Another example- maufacturing job, General Employment- day shift $6.65 an hour. Now you ask that boss if he could survive off of that pay and they say they can't find workers, ha!

What about that money to help people get jobs and be productive that the President talked about? Well in my opinion the man just doesn't understand the basics and unfortunately we all know that except him. This money goes where the people in charge want it to go. People waiting months and years and can't find decent work or can't get any money to retool and find gainful employment. Yes, we know where it goes and the truth be said if I say it people get offended. Well I'm offended and Americans need it before foreigners.

So first hand facts, many get little to no help and are consistently put off. There are so many that have just plain dropped out of the system. Living from day to day or found on the sidewalks of America.

In my opinion these people who make these statements are worse then fools? They throw all kinds of numbers around. Well here is a number and a challange. Have all those big wigs in Tallahassee and in Washington, starting with our beloved President come on down to Hernando County, Florida and parts about and find work where you don't have to drive 50 miles one way on $3.00 a gallon gas all the while making a take home pay of $150.00 a week. If you don't believe this why not you come on down and give it a try?  Is that paying a living wage or something you can feed your family off of and have a future with? They would be on the first bus out of town that is if they could afford it.

So please don't tell us all if we want to work there are plenty of jobs. Please don't say employers can't get help. Say it right, they can't get exactly what they want for what they pay, which in my opinion is the height of exploitation and greed. They want cheap labor and all the expertise they can squeeze out of you, nothing wrong with that, right? Says a lot about that individual doesn't it? Oh, don't like the truth, well sorry, you have to deal with it.

So do you want to prove me wrong and I'll be thrilled, just come on down and take the test. Like they say in the movies, "show me the money", well show me the jobs! However, the fact is there just isn't a job for many even if they long for one and if there is a job it certainly doesn't pay well enough to survive.

Enough said! Wake up America its our own that is hurting and stop worrying about foreigners who are not citizens and really could care less about us. It is about time we took care of our own!

I am a 28 year old commercial insurance professional with seven solid years of experience. I sold my house and moved to South Florida from PA, in June, with my son. Since I've been down here I've been let go twice. I started working for one insurance agency on 5/28 and was let go on 7/6. Got on unemployment, which was nothing. On 10/1 after going on 15 interviews and 3 months behind in rent ($1300 a month) plus car note, I finally got another job. On 10/16 I was let go because my employer thought business would pick up and couldn't afford to keep me on the payroll. I've tried temp agencies but I can make if off of 8-12 or even 16 an hour. The walmarts and targets are out of the question, I can't make it on that salary. It's getting to the point where it's either my car payment or my rent. I love the weather, my son loves the weather and he is crushed but I am moving back to pa in a week!!! If I don't go back, I'll be living in a shelter. Can't afford it in South Florida once my dream spot.

I'm so sorry to hear of your circumstances. I have been writing for years about this "At Will" state and those like it trying to warn people that unless you have wealth this is not the state for average people, as sadly you know. My own family is suffering under the same. I sincerely do hope all works out. There are so many struggling and no one caring that it is unreal to even comprehend. Yet, I thank you for reading my work. As long as you have love and each other it will work out. Keep up your hope! Sincere best wishes for your future and your family, RTM

hi robert, good article. i have another fact that is disturbing as far as jobs are concerned, as well as other issues:I have lived in a home that is free and clear, through many reasons, and on top of not being able to afford the taxes, i am getting divorced, and he wants to force the sale of the house, leaving me with about 200,000 which would only be a down payment around here in new jersey, and i have health issues that prevent me from working. if a judge i have never met decides, i won't have a home, or money to buy or rent another one. while he makes 5600 a month. this would take place in a year, since i have a 17 year old. oh nice, i've lived here and taken care of every inch of this home and raised 3 kids in it for 20 years, and a judge who doesn't even know me or my kids, will decide what my fate is, and i'll really feel secure for a year knowing i'll then have to sell our home. there is wrong everywhere we turn, in the courts, in the banks, and in the job market, and especially in government. no one seems to think being a fulltime home maker and mother is a job! and i guess they're right-i never got a paycheck. but my kids are worth more than money, so i accept that, and hope the judge will grant us the house! thanks for listening! best regards, sue thom

Yes, Sue it is a shame and in reality a sin but that is what led me to write my article on Ethetical relativity. Now I don't know your circumstances but a MAN and I don't mean that physically but a MAN takes care of his children, period. That said it doesn't change the situation. Certainly as a stay home mom you have rights and protection. Don't be bullied and don;t be so nice you need to stand up for your kids and yourself. Seek as much help as you can. Call even those you might not fit into but perhaps they can recommend. There are places for distressed woman, the church, your local social services. But pick up that phone and call as many as necessary. I do hope it works out for you I know by your writings you have been having a hard time. That is why I have the problems I do and write to the topics I do. Hard but the truth and you will find there are good peole out there among all the Easter Bunnies. You know Sue peole do not like the truth they run from it. So while many of us will say a prayer it is up to you to get that help! Best wishes as always. RTM

Robert, You have hit the nail on the head! On Long Island the wage scale isn't even close to the cost of living, Housing is afforded only by the rich, the very rich. Here in South Carolina, the wage scale is even worse but because of the multitude of mobile homes, the average wage earner can have a roof over their heads. They just cant afford to upkeep it so the country side turns to trash. Our country is turning into the land of M&M's ( millionaires and mexicans ). Over the last decade, there has been a huge building industry because of the southward migration of Yankees but because of the non-english speaking workers, the only ones making huge money is the corporate builders. The average carpenter who used to make $12 an hour now is offered $6 to $7 but the housing costs keep going up. Explain that! The foreigners are killing our economy for the blue collar worker and our government doesnt care. Walk into any housing development and yell IMMIGRATION see how quick it becomes deserted. I know...been in one for the last 3 years.Thank you Robert.

I appreciate your comments. If you have had a chance to read some of my other works I am sure you will find that I have been writing to these topics for sometime now. Yes we have passed the point of no return and if do nothing now we are in my opinion gone if not already. If you liked this article I am quite sure you will agree with my others. Take a peak when you get a chance and spread them about. BUT and here it gets important, don't buy what you do not need and in 2008 and 2010 give them all the boot. Do not vote for one in office but replace them with their opponent, starting with your Mr. Graham. Best wishes and good luck! RTM
