Florida My Safe Home Hurricane Protection, but for whom, Part 2.

Now let's continue down the path for us Floridians. By now you should have read my first article on "Florida My Safe Home Protection". Why was this addendum added? Well in retrospect I got to sit and consider just what they did by taking this action? They have now stated that almost 90% of the state is not in a "Wind Born Area". If so and rhetorically is it proper for us citizens to ask why our Wind protection is either non-existent or reduced in coverage? Also, why then do we have excessively high deductibles and no wind damange protection? Why is it that we don’t have reductions and not increases? Ok I know I'm being foolish. After all aren’t they saying quite loudly we don’t need to fortify our homes becuase we don't live in a coastal area? Then if this is the 'high risk area" we evidently are not in a high risk area, just a normal risk area? They even designate the wind speeds for most of the state.
So why are the rates through the roof? Why are companies pulling out? Why are policies being dropped and why is all the risk being shifted to the consumer and citizens and I don’t mean Citizens Insurance Company?
Here is another example. They are now considering a significant area of Hernando County Florida as a flood zone. Thousands of homes are within this area and they have been there for decades. After they allowed this build up and the area is saturated the SWIFT Mud steps in and says oh, thats a flood zone. Where were these bright lights when money was to be made? Along with the sinkholes in this specifoic area in my opinion they have created a potential major financial catastrophe. They have literally left people out to hang and dry.
This impacts the entire county and all who live there in any number of ways. But it goes beyond that. This entire state is actually covered with water sources. Just fly over it. If you go past Brooksville and south this is “reclaimed land". The Continental shelf stops at Brooksville. The rest of the state was once under water and will most likely go under water if this climate gets warmer. Will they designate the entire state by nature of this action a flood zone and if not why not?
So in their wisdom they couldn’t perceive the ramifications or possibilities of their actions? One could write and write and write on the functions or I should say in my opinion non-functions of this state. From unemployment and job placement, to taxes, to being A right to work, or At Will State and on and on. The record speaks for itself.
Sorry but it is what it is. As I say in all of my articles if you got the bucks and are a business owner this is the state for you. If you are worker then think hard and think long.
Just check out the maps on My Safe Florida.com and you can see for yourself. Sorry the facts hurt but they are what they are and don’t expect your representatives to acknowledge any of it.
Now there are altenatives but the fact is no one wants to face them. Like New Orleans they sit, wait and pray. Yes, and don't expect your local paper to talk about it. Maybe well after the issue is around for sometime. Now don't get me wrong, nature is a monster and no amount of planning can cover every base. BUT you can limit exposure. You can limit liability and you can "weather the storm" physically and financially and that may mean leaving. That is if you plan and prepare.
Experience says the majority won't until it is too late.
