Where Has America Gone?

Well you may ask what type of a question is that? I’m not talking about the physical America but I am talking about the moral and cultural aspects, which were America. I am not even talking about allegiance because I love this nation and my heart is heavy as to where we are. It certainly isn't evidently where most Americans even agree with me yet while I respect that I will try to give you my perceptions.
First came the subtle changes like that to the banking system. The Savings Bank industry, which was a stalwart of the banking community, was destroyed and replaced by the large international bank corporations. These were the banks that fostered savings and sowed the seeds for that concept into families. Kids had savings accounts, Christmas Clubs, oh I'm sorry, am I politically correct in mentioning Christmas? Very few average people make enough to even have a piggy bank yet they say we are all doing well and living the good life. Well no argument there when you look at the houses, the retirement communities, the golf courses and the new cars. I just don’t see it where the tire meets the road for most average Americans. If your not an average American you do not know what I am talking about.
Next came the influx of immigrants and larger number of green card holders issued to third world countries. In fact Mr. Bill gates is calling for an even greater number of green cards to be issued. Well I have been in the business long before Mr. Gates and I can tell you first hand there are many technological people right here who are out of work. In my opinion they don’t work for those cheaper wages and limited benefits that are so nice for the bottom line and therefore not wanted. theya re also not part of the bigger Global picture- one happy world ruled by those who know what is best for us all. You know- perhaps they are right?
Next came the Japanese who became the big money people in those days as the first migration of our industrial might move toward the orient. They purchased everything they could with our dollars and they were the first to say you have a lifetime job and then they laid you off. Next came South Korea, Indonesia and other locations where cheap labor could be had. Move plants and operation there and just keep assembly, shipping and package plants here using cheaper labor. It was a win, win situation for business.
The masses of India and China were next on the horizon. Here was an abundance of cheap labor and capable people ready to come here to get their free education and stay. They would work any number of cheap jobs because that was better then what they had at home. Free schooling, a job, benefits and above all opportunity were the catalyst and motivator. What more could you ask for?
As for Americans they were slowly becoming the expendables. High cost in salaries and benefits cut into bottom line profits. What good business owner or bean counter wouldn’t want to rectify that? All over the world these countries are growing in economic power and might and at our expense using our jobs and yes even our tax dollars. We have become a service nation and just like Fotmat and many of those otehr 'service giants that went by the wayside" in my opinion so will we when no longer needed.
So this once Christian nation who used to profess loyalty, dedication, perseverance, integrity and respect has by nature of fact and in my opinion become a nation of the exact opposite and where people who job hop from job to job are considered the cream. If you profess to place people at the core of your philosophy you are most likely out of work. People are in my opinion a commodity that you use to accomplish an end or result and nothing more. People are just an expense item on the ledger that needs to be eliminated or reduced.
Oh yes, we still have the same people espousing these old values of God, country, family but that in my opinion is for public consumption only. In fact they have their God, Country, Family but I ask, rhetorically of course, is it the same ones we profess? Behind those boardroom and meeting room doors lies the cutting tool that is always available. These same people are always professing change is good. Just look at the economy. Well sadly they are right, it is good for them. You need to read Making money has only one allegiance, that’s in making more!
Yes, in my opinion America is gone, gone, gone. It is not the same, it will never be again and it is going to change even more drastically over the next few years. The sad part is few to none even recognize that and frankly few would even put this in print where any number of people could read it. It is just one more example of America today.
Now here is just one example. One of our Congressmen from Mississippi is now talking about getting rid of the fence that is not even installed yet to stop illegal immigration. Just today our new leaders talked about passing the Presidents version of Comprehensive Immigration in a bipartisan effort.
What they are talking about is The North American Union, cheaper labor from Mexico and the G8 vision. Well that is evidently ok and you say what is wrong with that? However, what has happened in my opinion is everything many thought they voted to change isn’t going to be changed. Gee isn't that strange? What you didn’t want will be accelerated. That in my opinion is really going to impact our children for a long time to come. Read, “How did we get here" We will in my opinion be leaving them the crumbs and not even the tools to pull themselves out of the mud created. Of course when they reach bottom the circle will come back to them as labor off shore becomes as we once were- too expensive.
Well enough of all of this. Now that I have written a number of articles, I really don’t know why I bother. I and only a few seem concerned. As I have said many times, in my opinion vote or no vote it does not matter. So here is my new agenda:
1- Turn off the boob tube because in my opinion I am becoming a boob listening to all that garbage and those that banter it about.
2- Get rid of the news magazines and newspapers.
3- Take up another pastime then writing.
4- Do everything I can to help my kids succeed.
5- Pass on voting it is a waste of time and gas.
6- Be humble, silent and enjoy the remainder of ones days with my loved ones.
7- As for the Internet- a real joke. Just like cable TV that was supposed to reduce commercials!
God Bless you all thanks for reading and the nice comments. Perhaps someday way up the road someone will read what I have written during this are of "unfortunately" and understand the times we lived in as I saw them? Of course they will not believe it and they will question it and they will also put their own interpretation to it. But you know something, who really cares?
